Sicilian Drinks

“My only regret in life is that I did not drink more wine.”

– Ernest Hemingway

Surprisingly, Sicily is the largest producing region in Italy and its wine has a distinctive Mediterranean character. The two most popular grape varieties, Grillo (white) and Nero d’Avola (red), can be found throughout Sicily. Sicilian wine tends to taste lighter than other regions yet has depth as well.

Wine may be the most famous drink in Sicily but espresso and cappuccino are just as delightful. Sicilians take an espresso for breakfast in the morning, so to be like the locals order espresso.

Before dinner try an an aperitivo like the Aperol Spritz (an Italian aperitif with prosecco and soda water) or a Messina (a Sicilian beer). After dinner drinks are also common (un digestivo)- an amaro (a bittersweet Italian digestif) or limoncello (an Italian lemon liqueur).
